GM foods have created social impacts throughout the world. They aren't socially accepted everywhere, especially in Europe. It didn't help when the Pope included genetic modification in his list of seven deadly sins in 2008. He, like many people in Europe and other countries, feels that GM crops shouldn't be eaten due to the insufficient testing behind the idea. GM crops have also socially impacted people by lessening their freedom of choice. In America, 70% of food in the grocery stores was considered genetically modified and most wasn't labeled. There are an increasing number of people who are concerned with the growth and consumption of non-GM crops as it is hard to know whether the food is GM free or not. For example, organic foods are always GM free but with the uncontrolled factor of cross-pollination, you never know. Also, a lot of the meat can have genetically modified material in it as much of the food animals are fed is made of genetically modified crops.  19
